LIPCHAIN Initial idea for LIPCHAIN was to provide the community with the best possible conditions to practice surfing. Surfing is an important national sport in Portugal and increasingly popular all around the world. Its community is huge: around 60 million participants currently generating revenues ranging between $70 and $130 billion each year for the global surf-related industry.
There are two main problems for surfers
The first one is lack of locations and seasons with good waves. Surfing requires waves of equal height which are aligned in the same direction. There are not many places on Earth with such waves. And in these such places, the weather conditions that nature offers are not always the best. Good times to surf are limited to only once or twice per year. And when weather is good and there are good waves it may get overcrowded with people quick so a surfer spends more time capturing one for himself.
As result, it may be hard to believe, but it takes on average between 6 to 8 years for a surfer to reach a professional level!
The second problem is money for training. It’s a vicious circle. To start, one needs to invest a minimum of 750€ and then budget for a further minimum spend of 270€ per month. Further investment in better equipment is required so as to progress in skill.
LIPCHAIN solutions
Project creating an App for surfers and sailors to post their videos and photos and in turn earn tokens. According to the rating that the picture or video will get from the community, a surfer can expect to receive up to 840€ per month through this basic sponsoring program. We will In turn construct inland wave pools for year-round training followed by an inland Eco Resort. We already have technology and blueprints for these projects.
Regarding the App, by talking to the community, we came to realize that, surfers are sharing their picture/video to a general audience for free on social networks. These posts earn money by showing ads but share nothing with our fellow sportsmen. LIPCHAIN will create a decentralized social network dedicated to surfing which will allow users to be paid for the content they will publish on the app through a sponsoring system secured via smart contract. Also, project team learned from the community that surfer’s friends and relatives are spending lots of time supporting them during training and competitions. With LIPCHAIN App, now relatives will be able to create pictures and videos and earn money that can be shared with the filmed athlete.
Finally surfing and other watersports will become available to an average athlete without a sponsor!
